This is what my first project is. I am to research the UKIYO-E style woodblock prints, find one I like and copy it exactly, but I am to add something to the image that makes the piece a personal narrative. Who I am, what I like, something that describes me. The examples above are student works that Jeff showed me and are the best out of the lot. =)
I really like the UKIYO-E style. I'm really drawn to anything Japanese. I like the one with the woman (not because she has books) because of the way you explained to me that it has to mimic the same exact style. I think the shoe is flawless in that sense. Can't wait to see more. On a side note did you know that woodcuts are comics? With that in mind how do you feel about how the above art can be considered "comics"? And by comics I do not mean comedic.
